Their sound was influenced by punk rock, reggae and jazz. The Police are considered the leaders of the second British invasion of the 1980s in the United States. The group disbanded in 1986, only to meet briefly for a world tour in 2007.

During their career, the Police were awarded with six Grammy Awards and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. Altogether they sold about 75 million records.
